Ever curious as a child, Jai found that school never captured his imagination. He did well, but by the time he reached college he began searching for something more. At UC San Diego, Jai majored in philosophy, while concurrently studying a wide range of subjects outside of school including Jungian psychology, Zen Buddhism, and indigenous mythologies. He spent his junior year studying abroad in India, where he attended his first silent meditation retreat, studied Advaita Vedanta, and met the Dalai Lama.
When he began working with youth in 1999 he realized that students need far more than academic support to truly thrive. When he founded LifeWorks in 2004, he committed himself to helping individuals learn how to live well, which of course includes doing well in school. This integrated model proved extremely effective and his students increasingly began to succeed in school and increase their wellbeing.
Today, Jai is a certified Mindfulness teacher and Qigong instructor. He has also studied and incorporated into the LifeWorks approach core principles from Non-Violent Communication and from Attachment Theory. Jai received his BA in Philosophy from UC San Diego.
